世界氣象組織(WMO)給出的定義是:
According to the WMOdefinition, a stratospheric warming occurs when the lat-itudinal gradient in 10-hPa zonal-mean temperatures be-tween 85 and 60N is positive for more than 5 days.If the 10-hPa zonal-mean zonal wind at 65N is con-currently easterly, the warming event is categorized asa ‘‘major warming’’; otherwise, the warming event is categorized as ‘‘minor’’ (see Andrews et al. 1987).
另外其他意見是:
Labitzke and Nanjokat (2000) classified a SSW as a minor warming if there is a significant increase of temperature (at least by 25 K per week) at any stratospheric level in any area of the winter hemisphere. This temperature increase can be intense and sometimes also reverse the temperature gradient, but they cannot cause any reversal at the 10 hPa pressure level.
本年度的平流層增溫主要出現在烏山地區和泰米爾半島一帶地區,圖1顯示10hPa過去一週的北半球增溫幅度,深紅色區域顯示增溫超過25度地區,和去年在換日線地區開始增溫有地域差異
圖2顯示平流層E-P通量垂直向量圖表,和行星波的群速有莫大關係,由12月30日-1月6日為止,對流層不斷有E-P通量向上傳至平流層,特別在5日至6日...強烈上傳波動直達平流層頂,初步相信和中西亞偶極子有關係
